Dear Friends and Neighbors,

In this week’s video update, I discuss the importance of Initiative 2117, which would repeal the Climate Commitment Act.

I care deeply about the environment. As I’ve shared—and demonstrated with a five-bill package this session—salmon recovery is one of my top priorities. I am troubled by the fact nearly 50% of Washington’s freshwater and 20% of its marine water is polluted, and that 2.7 million acres of our forests are unhealthy. I want to help fix every environmental problem we face, but the CCA is bad policy that is hurting far too many people here in the 2nd District and throughout the state. The carbon tax is the sole reason why gas prices rose above $5 per gallon last summer and why our gas prices are still third-highest in the nation.

Initiative 2117 is now before the Legislature, along with two other initiatives that have been certified by the Secretary of State. House Republicans have, and will continue, to try to compel Democrats to hold public hearings so you can make your voice heard. It is unlikely, however, that they will act on any of the initiatives before the 2024 session comes to a close. That means they will be on the November ballot.

Please continue reaching out to me with your comments, questions and concerns. My email address is JT.Wilcox@leg.wa.gov, and my office number is (360) 786-7912.

It is an honor to serve you.
