Republicans optimistic about housing and police pursuit legislation

Republican legislative leaders told reporters they are hopeful a bill will move forward fixing restrictions Democrats placed on police pursuits in 2021, and said they see some momentum around legislation that would increase so-called “middle housing” in urban areas.

Lawmakers answered questions about their use and understanding of legislative privilege to protect public records, a wealth tax proposed by Democrats, hospital staffing ratios and the appointment of Rep. Clyde Shavers, D-Oak Harbor, to a committee overseeing veterans affairs after he allegedly misrepresented his military record.

Speaking to the media were House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox (R-Yelm), Rep. Chris Corry (R-Yakima), Senate Republican Leader John Braun (R-Centralia) and Sen. Keith Wagoner (R-Sedro-Woolley).
