Republicans respond to sweeping proposals by governor in State of State address

Legislative Republicans responded to Gov. Jay Inslee’s State of the State address in a media availability, applauding the governor and majority party for adopting policies Republicans have long proposed related to public safety and education โ€” and expressing disappointment in the governor’s proposal to pour billions of state dollars into public housing rather than work with private sector builders and rental housing providers to increase supply at the scale needed to improve Washington’s housing crisis.

Lawmakers also answered questions about child care, abortion, gun control and decriminalizing drugs. House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox, R-Yelm, was joined by Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber (R-Republic), Rep. Peter Abbarno (R-Centralia), Senate Republican Leader John Braun (R-Centralia) and Sen. Judy Warnick (R-Moses Lake).
