Republicans discuss emergency powers, police reform with media

House and Senate Republicans discussed a bipartisan effort to increase legislative involvement in gubernatorial emergency powers and answered reporters' questions about police reform legislation making its way through both chambers of the Legislature. Senators and representatives also weighed in on transportation funding, costly proposeed fuel standards and clean energy bills, and an emergency clause — which some Democrats wrongly said was requested by Washington State Patrol — that would prevent an open carry weapons ban from being subject to voter initiative. Attending the news conference were Reps. J.T. Wilcox, Jacquelin Maycumber and Drew MacEwen and Sens. John Braun, Shelly Short and Doug Ericksen.
