Statement from House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox on Gov. Jay Inslee’s emergency proclamation for K-12 education

House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox released the following statement regarding Gov. Jay Inslee's announcement of an emergency proclamation relating to K-12 education:

“While I wish the governor had done this earlier and with a higher expectation for in-person instruction, he is doing the right thing now. We must get our students back in the classroom as soon as possible. Schools know how to operate safely and have the resources to do it.

“The Legislature could have pursued a similar policy weeks ago, but the majority party chose not to act. We all need the Democrats to understand the importance of emergency-powers reform. It is time to restore the proper balance so 147 state lawmakers and their constituents can have a greater voice in the policies that impact their lives.”
