Statement from House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox on Gov. Jay Inslee’s Phase 3 announcement

House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox released the following statement in response to Gov. Jay Inslee’s announcement on Phase 3 of the Healthy Washington: Roadmap to Recovery plan.

“The governor revealed Phase 3 of his reopening plan after more than two months. Despite the governor and his office dismissing the Republican Open Safe, Open Now plan last week, it looks like he may have listened to us after all since he adopted elements of it.

“While businesses and venues now have some much-needed certainty moving forward, families still face uncertainty when it comes to kids returning to the classroom. Republicans will continue to push the governor and Democrats to do more to get students safely back to in-class learning. This is long overdue and schools know how to do it safely.

“We also need to work on emergency-powers reform, which should not be a partisan issue. As The News Tribune editorial board pointed out today, we need to preserve balanced, constitutionally sound government that ensures the voices of Washingtonians are heard through their elected state lawmakers. House Republicans have proposed legislation to restore this proper balance and the well-being of our state demands collaboration on this issue.”
