House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox responds to extension of Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order to May 31 and probably beyond

House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox, R-Yelm, issued the following statement Friday:

“There are still more questions than answers after Governor Inslee's announcement that he is extending his stay-home order to May 31 and probably beyond. Individuals, families and businesses are under a tremendous amount of stress and I don't know if the governor understands the depth of the economic and emotional toll this is taking on Washingtonians. They need hope and certainty, but they didn't get that today.

“What's also disappointing is that so many other states have put forward comprehensive plans to safely restart their economies, including Colorado, which is part of Governor Inslee's Western States Pact. I also know that phase one business sectors have been working with the governor's office for several weeks to finalize plans and safely restart businesses. And it sounds like it could still take weeks for their plans to be approved.

“Legislative leaders did not receive a briefing about the content of today's announcement. I will have more to say early next week after I talk to other state lawmakers, constituents and stakeholders over the next few days.”
