Statement from House Republican Leader J.T. Wilcox on the failure to pass Sound Transit car-tab relief

“The majority party was never serious about passing meaningful car-tab relief. They control both chambers and never allowed a bill to come forward this year that would have provided this meaningful relief.

“This is an issue where Democrats felt tremendous pressure from certain stakeholder groups. Democrats knew if they ran a bill that provided real relief it would upset these stakeholders. In the end, they chose special interests over the taxpayers in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. It's really as simple as that. It's going to be a hard thing to explain to their constituents.

“As for the Pellicciotti bill, it didn't provide meaningful relief. House Republicans offered amendments that would have. We had plenty of time to run legislation yesterday. I don't think the House Democrats were up for losing another floor debate on this issue.”

Note: House Bill 2201 passed the House on January 24. The Senate never acted on the legislation.
