Bethel high school student pages at the Washington State Legislature

Tiana Marie Brundage served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives in Olympia the week of Jan. 14. Tiana is the son of Bret and Shanon Atkinson. She was sponsored by Rep. J.T. Wilcox, R-Yelm.

β€œIt is always encouraging to see students show interest in civics and government,” Wilcox said.

At the end of her week in Olympia, Brundage sponsored a mock bill that addresses smoking in cars with children.

Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Students spend a week attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and assisting legislators inside the House chamber.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. For more information about the legislative page program, visit: http://www,.leg.wa.gov/House/PageInternProgram/housepageprogram.htm.
